Temperature Stitching

Temperature Stitching gives every day a project. You record the day’s temperature, and the last digit of that number picks which project you stitch on. Over a month or a year, your temperature record turns into a calendar of stitching.

You assign each digit from 0 to 9 to a project or category. Each day, the app looks at the ones digit of the temperature you log and ignores the rest.

  • 69° is digit 9.
  • 70° is digit 0.
  • 102° is digit 2.

The sign doesn’t matter either. −13° and 13° both land on digit 3.

This means the same project will come up again and again, which is how the game works. It isn’t a color chart, and the app doesn’t fill in the temperature for you. You type it in yourself.

Tap New Game on the Games tab of Plans and choose Temperature Stitching. Setup has two steps.

The New Temperature Game form with a name, start and end dates, and a default goal

  • Game name — whatever you like.
  • Start and End dates — the start defaults to today. The end date is optional.
  • Default goal type and Default goal value — what you’ll aim for on each day: Stitches, Minutes, Days, or Floss Lengths. These can also be changed per digit.

Tap Proceed to Digit Assignment.

The digit assignment list with digits 0 and 1 assigned to projects and digits 2 to 7 unassigned

You’ll see ten rows, one for each digit from 0 to 9. Tap the pencil next to a digit to give it a project or a category. You can also set a different goal for just that digit. Only projects that are New, Partially Kitted, Kitted, or WIP are offered. See Project Statuses.

For a faster start, tap Randomly Assign.

The Randomly Assign dialog with options to assign digits to projects, choose which projects, and allow repeats

  • Assign Digits to — Projects or Categories.
  • Which projects — All Projects, or Select Categories to limit it.
  • Allow repeat projects — turn this on if you have fewer than ten projects. With it off, you need at least ten different projects (or categories), and the app tells you if you don’t have enough.

Save Game turns on once all ten digits are assigned.

Open the game from the Games tab. The header shows the game’s dates and how many days you’ve logged. Below it, three views let you see the game in different ways: Calendar, Log, and Digits.

The Calendar view for October with days showing temperatures, project names, and progress

To log several days at once, tap Log Temperatures. You’ll see a list of days, starting from the game’s start date. Type a whole-number temperature for each day, from −150 to 150, and tap Save.

The Log Temperatures dialog with a list of dates and temperatures

The list runs from the start date up to the end date, or up to a week from today, whichever comes first. Days you’ve already logged are filled in.

To log one day, tap it on the calendar. The app shows which digit the temperature lands on, and which project that means. Once a day has a project, you can also log stitching progress from the same screen.

Each day on the calendar shows the date, the temperature, the project or category, and your progress.

  • Calendar — the month grid, with each logged day filled in.

  • Log — a list of your logged days, newest first, showing each temperature, its digit, and the project.

The Log view listing days with their temperatures, digits, and projects

  • Digits — a card for each digit, with its goal and how many of its days are complete, such as 3 of 5 days complete.

To add progress for a day, use the same Session, Total, and Percent options as a regular project update. You can also add photos. For Minutes and Floss Lengths goals, there’s an extra required field. The update is saved on the project too. See Progress Tracking.

Below the calendar are buttons for wrapping up a game.

  • Mark Complete — finish the game. You can do this any time, even if the board isn’t full.

    The Mark Complete confirmation dialog

  • Archive Remaining Goals — keep the game but move its open goals out of your Active plans.

  • Archive Game — mark the game as abandoned. The app asks whether to archive its open goals too.

The Archive Goals dialog asking whether to also archive open goals, with Cancel, No keep active, and Yes archive goals

  • Delete Game — remove a game for good. This button only appears once a game is completed or archived.

If the game has progress updates on your projects, deleting it asks what to do with them.

The Delete Project Updates dialog with Cancel, Keep with Project, and Delete Updates

Choose Keep with Project to leave those updates on your projects, or Delete Updates to remove them along with the game.

A game with an end date completes on its own once every day from start to end has finished its goal. The app checks right after you log progress that meets a goal, not when you open the game.
